Feeding your Java Finch

Your Java nutritional seed mix should look similar if not exactly the same as the picture above.

It is very important that your Java Finches are fed healthy, or they will not live long. My Java Finches tend to accept Millet stems, Egg food, and Romaine Lettuce, compared to everything else I have offered and continue to offer them. Some of my Java's also accept Corn on the Cob! Cuttlebone, and a Pineapple mineral block are always found found in their cages along with fresh water. I also offer mineral grit consecutively.

Why so many extra foods?

Your Java Finch must be happy to fulfill their lives. The male Java Finches carry a beautiful canary-like song. They are wonderful pets, and although they are not handleable, they make fine companions for anyone. Female Java Finches require calcium and vitamins to produce healthy and lively chicks. Many female java finches will not breed, if their food requirement is not met!

Housing your Java Finch

My Java Finches are held in small aviaries that average 3' high and 2' wide. When I select them as breeders a pair is moved to a 30x18x18" flight. Each pair is offered a nesting box or sometimes parakeet bamboo nest (preference of bird), and are cared for seperately.

Breeding your Java Finch

  1. Be sure to have a male and female pair
  2. Be sure they are of age
  3. Be sure they are conditioned properly. (Their color will be bright. Male activity: Singing his heart out/Female activity: Dancing perch to perch)
  4. Be sure they are housed properly and are offered a large enough nest box, and are given plenty of nesting material.
  5. If all the conditions are followed expect eggs in 5-14 days time.

Stages of a Java Finch

The pictures below have been taken from www.JavaFinch.com. Mr. Rob Salem has been breeding Java Finch for years and has made an extraordinary website with tons of information.
